Ans Kïnel'flu, the Sea of Bitter Tears, earns its name honestly: it is the drowning-sea of the north-west, cold, sudden, and shorter-tempered than any water its size. The coasts that work it have salt-stained rituals for departure and stubborn ones for return. What the name first mourned is no longer known, which the coast folk consider fitting; the sea makes new grounds for it at intervals, as if unwilling to let the name go quiet.
